Little Bear is a brand new creation
my little indian squaw with an even littler papoose on her back
and she totes her bows and arrows…Little Bear can provide
for her family… she is strong and brave and very very beautiful…

I used brown paper as my ‘canvas’
it’s a mixed media production

oo i really appreciate that jeannette…. glad you like the papoose…when ben was a little baby, he looked very dark with red/brown skinned and black black hair, he truly looked for all the world like a little american indian baby :)

Little Bear is simply adorable….what happens to your originals Karin? Do you use something to protect them from deterioration?

thank you very much indeed Janis,
re the originals…..
they are simply sprayed with fixative and placed flat in a large slot in one of my cupboards that was purpose built. they cannot be sold or framed, in some ways they remain unfinished, as the finishing touches are applied in photoshop, so the original is not my best work, the finished product is so much more polished and presentable than the actual original…it is suprising what a difference a bit of photoshopping can do to enhance the painting actually :)

I guess then that your record would be the image in your computer…the original would not last long, because of the materials used…thanks goodness for computer storage systems…

yes, i can always take another photo of my work…the work will still last long time, i keep it safe and dry and the brown paper is very heavy weight and strong…but not the type of thing you would frame…so yes, you are right… but of course i can always take another photo and redo it on the computer should my files be lost …. :)

So true…I just took a class in archiving…anthing on non-archival paper or with the use of house paint begin to degrade very quickly…buyers of originals get a little annoyed at that… :))

yes, i never ever ever sell anything unless it’s on the highest quality papers, archers aquarelle or other fine art papers that will stand the test of time, i also have a giclee printer and we only used Epson Ehanced Matte or top quality canvas to print on…. this way the prints last in excess of 70 years if the canvas is sprayed or 120 years if kept under glass and away from uv light. It’s best to pay for the highest quality canvas or papers one can afford, especially if you’re selling your work. A lot of artists don’t realise this…

you know, Karin.. of all your paintings for the Children of the World series so far.. this is MY FAVORITE!! yesh!! it’s my fav!! i love how cute this is… the way the mommy piggyback the lil one, and her bow and arrows. it’s like the mommy’s taking care and protecting the little one behind her.. it’s really sweet and heart-warming.. like i mentioned before.. love the colors for this piece too.. from the tanned skin, to the colorful accessories.. this is my biggest fav!! X)
