Karin Taylor

thanks so much Cate…it’s getting chilly isn’t it!
there is a gallery for artists, like a co-operative (or there was) down near the Jetty at Coffs…do you know of it?
CateTownsend
um there is a gallery but its pretty snooty lol
CateTownsend
you have to be sort of famous to get stuff shown there
CateTownsend
We have to go there for class and right lots of stuff about exhibitions they have on there. They usually only have one artist at a time to my knowledge and from all around the country
Karin Taylor
replied
oh right, well, when it first began i think they were showing local talent, and it was more of a co-operative…such a shame it’s gone that way…you also have the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery there? I used to work across the road from it!!! (it wasn’t there when i was working there tho) ....years ago my husband and i met in the back lane behind there…i was working in the Regional Office of the State Bank of NSW and he was a scientist working in Pathology in a little house (Sullivan & Nicolaides) I believe it’s all gone now tho…..I used to live out near the “Hoey Moey” pub and be down the beach all the time there…ah those were the days :)
CateTownsend
Its the kind of stuff that you have to sit a long time and contemplate the meanings if you get my drift..
Karin Taylor
replied
yeah, that would put you off a bit..never mind :(
Karin Taylor
I lived in Colombus Circuit!! in a tiny flat!!! it wasn’t very nice at all :)
CateTownsend
lol
CateTownsend
You met in a back lane lol do you realise the visualizations that creates…... they still do have sulllivan and nicolaides pathology dont know about the state bank regional office though. Maybe I should travel laneways a bit more often… lol you never know your luck
Karin Taylor
replied
hehe…yeah, okay….i wasn’t trolling for talent or nuthin’...
i worked in the building next door, a few stories up…..
we liked each other for a year before we met thru
a mutual friend who worked in the Bank….a whole
other story there Cate :) together now 18 years

Went to comment on: I can touch my nose. Really cute! But, having read the comments above, want to mention that I bought a block of land on the corner of Nambucca Place. Yes. In Nambucca Heads, in 1979. Had a kit-home built on it and the carted furniture from Coffs (as well as Sydney), in my station-wagon.
Sadly did not get a move there.
Was in Coffs Harbour, last year, after I finished assessing the local beaches, for the Keep Austalia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge.
Last stop was, of course, Oma’s Kitchen. Sat and chatted with the owner, in the restaurant.
And then, ..... in 1980, I interviewed the owners of the windmill-motel and restaurant, for the SBS Radio 2Ea Dutch-language program…........
I’ll stop now. (It’s still my secret dream to makee that sea-change!!!)
Karin Taylor
replied
hahaa!! well, will you believe this…???
when i lived in Coffs I tried out for a receptionist job with the Windmill Restaurant/Motel…...and yes there’s more! My husband and I went out on our first ‘real’ date at the same restaurant…..I’ll never forget getting my stilletto caught in the pathway leading up to the front door, and was terrified I would embarrass myself by sticking my fork in my cheek rather than my mouth….as I was soooo nervous on our big date.
Here’s where i’ve been around the tracks a bit…...ps love Nambucca!!

I was posted to Maude-via-Hay. (One-teacher-school.) Principal of Hay P.S., was asked to keep an eye on me. Befriended him, his wife and kids. They camped at Crescent Head every year, after they moved to Newcastle. That’s where I visited them and got a taste for that part of the coast.

I took my colleague up to my house, in Nambucca Heads, a year or so later. One of the first pictures I took of her, was beside the windmill. On that pathway. Other pictures at South-West Rocks.
My builder and my ex-wife’s aunt and uncle lived in Port Macquarie.
What I particularly remember about the radio interview was discussing with the new owner, how the man who built it had fallen to his death. Something along the lines of how sad it was but what a lucky break for them.
We also drove to North Dorrigo, where a Dutch-born lady from Sydney, who used to run one of the two Dutch choirs here (in Sydney) lived in Helen’s Cottage and spun wool and created things to sell. It seemed so idyllic but I’ve heard since, that she returned to the Netherlands.
Karin Taylor
oh wow, thanx…it’s sooo interesting…..you’ve been to a lot of the same spots!!!! My surname (Maiden Name was Clarke) and my dad was a policeman … John Clarke…..so some may know of him, he was a bit of a hero and got famous in Port Macquarie for 2 reasons….one of them was he tried and did make the World Guinness Book of Records for egg-throwing on the oval across from Oxley Beach with other policeman off duty…...they had to throw it the longest distance and the whole town turned out…...!!! The other was he risked his life to save some yachties on the bar, diving into dangerous shark infested waters, just as he reached the boat the final person went down, he dived and dived but couldn’t find them…after that the helicopters flew over to show the waters had been infested with sharks that day…..oooooh scary…..dad and i have had quite a few encounters with sharks…it all sounds a bit ‘over the top’ but true as i’m sitting here :)

I never new you also lived in Coffs for a while, that’s where I grew up! God it’s such a small world isn’t it. And I was just reading a few of the earlier posts above and just wanted to add – I did work experience in the Windmill Restaurant in 2000! haha
Karin Taylor
