This is a painting I painted that is a mixed media, encaustic painting.
Encaustic painting is essentially a hot beeswax painting. A medium, or paint, is made from damar crystals, beeswax and pigment. The liquid medium is applied to the support with brushes, metal tools or pouring to shape the wax before it cools. Layers are built up, each layer being fused to the last with a heat source. Wax has a sculptural quality that allows it to be molded, carved and have certain absorptive materials collaged or embedded into it.
