Mother/Daughter - Drawn from Life by

This calendar is created from my mum’s scrapbook (actually a sketch book) from 1945 to 1949. As I looked through it I found some amazing similarities between us in both subject matter and style. I think both sets of drawings reflect their times and provide a time capsule and a link between generations.

history, world war ii, mother

self taught, figurative, major themes dance, horses & other animals, women, nudes. Best critique “you know you’re getting better” last year my mum.
Art is art, any method, media or medium or process is valid (well maybe not metalic nudes on black velvet or dogs playing poker) David Hockney embraces his Ipad paint app & emails creations to friends. Like to be on that mailing list.
Motto: Remember the best remedy for anti-aging is death, Burgundy before Botox

Karen, this is a wonderful and intriguong creaton. Like this repetition and interpretation of the same subject matter. How cool to have that connection with your Mother! This is a gem. :))

  • Hi yvonca – How nice to hear from you. Hope you are well and clean up progressing. My mum’s 83 now and I wanted to get these pics together for a while. I just sent her the calendar and I think she will be surprised. I just found it amazing how similar things were, but she could do a lot more things a lot better than me, not only drawing but created most of my high school clothes (and they were cool, not daggy) and knitted and can cook. All things I can’t do! Take care of yourself and thank you

  • Thank you – just sent it to my Mum, I think she will be just as surprised as I was to see how alike these are, she’s 83 but likes to play the pokies more than drawing now a days ;-)
