The essence of my work meets somewhere between contemporary and surrealistic; once blended becomes a world of expressionistic fantasy. A ‘flight of fantasy’ may best describe the feeling of my work with a deep appreciation of Jewish – Belarusian born French artist Marc Chagall and his dreamlike work which he dedicated mostly to the love and the joy of life. I have an obsession with my characters having the ability to fly. It is an obsession with all humans whether in our dreams at night or in real life. Flight is one form of freedom, a freedom that we do not receive in our confined space of reality.
My preferred choice of medium is oils, though enjoy mixed medium with the unusual choice of fabric and thread.
The beginning of my love of art began at a young age painting with my Grandmother in the garage of her home, from there in year 12 of High School was selected in the renowned Art Express Exhibition at the NSW Art Gallery 1991, which was to be the catalyst for the desire to continue producing works. After studying a Diploma of Advertising and Design at Design College Australia, Brisbane QLD 1992, married and moved to the Mid North Coast NSW where I continued creating works on commission basis with exhibiting in small galleries in the surrounding area.
Recently my focus has been on stylised portrait works and landscapes, of my local environment. I have recently started my series of people in the Tamworth area; ‘people doing people things’. Keep an eye out on my web site for recent ‘still wet’ paintings, as it is updated regularly.
