The Wish List

Mom, did you know that Christmas is coming?
I am working on my list it is growing and growing.
I want this, I want that, and the other thing too.
I will have so much stuff I won’t know what to do.
Did you see the new dolls, and that toy car you drive?
I think it would be fun to have about five.

Then my mom sat me down for a little chat.
I said that I also wanted a cowboy hat.
She said there is something you need to know.
It’s not very pretty but it’s just how it goes.
Did you know there are children without much to eat.
Some children live in the cold with no shoes on their feet.

So when you are thinking of stuff on your list.
Remember what I have told you , tie a string on your wrist.
You need to be thankful for what you have got.
Many children are sleeping without even a cot.
She said mom, I am sad I just did not know.
I’ve been bery lucky, then walked away slow.

I’m working on a new list I think you’ll be proud.
As soon as I’m done I will say it out loud.
How about shoes for the children, and pillows for their head.
How about food for the people, and even a bed.
Mom I know I am asking for a lot on my list.
But now I am thankful, see the string on my wrist.
