29cm x 29xm artwork, done with coloured pencils on wood, inspired by our own cat, who stretches his paw up as high as he can (fortunately he can’t reach the bench) whenever I am chopping up chicken or fish.

Karen I thought this was a photo!!! So very realistic! This is just fantastic!
Thank you Lynne – I’m having lot’s of fun going with super realism and the whole idea is to make people think it is a photo :)

Fabulous work Karen. I too thought it was a photo!!!
Thank you heaps Sharon – so much fun to trick people!!! :))
Amazing detail and lighting! You had me too:) I really thought it was a photo.
Thank you Nancy – so happy I had you fooled!!! :)
Thank you so much Catherine!!! :)
amazing work Karen, looks soooo realistic, how good are you!!
Thank you Karen – I’ve spent the last year trying to move away from realism – and now I think why fight it!!! Ditto right back at you by the way :)
Karen, you’re amazing. I don’t believe it!!
Believe it – LOL – thank you Ann!!! :)
Fantastic work Karen. Wish I could make my coloured pencils work for me like that.
Thank you Jacqui – I didn’t realise you work with coloured pencils too. Your sure are a master behind the lens, something I have never mastered!!! :)
Karen this looks like I could just reach into the computer and put it into my mouth. You have done an outstanding job on this fabulous piece of artwork.
Thank you so much Nikonuser – what more could I ask for – that’s just what I was hoping to achieve!!! There might even be a sardine or two left for you, after I give some to the cat :)
Don’t fight it Karen, realism in paintings is great and people should enjoy it more. And the thing is, painted realism looks better than the photo anyway. You’re doing brilliant Karen, every piece of work you put on here has your special touch on it and that is perfectism (is that an official word?)….and beautiful! Love the cats paw and all the beautiful details, the bread and the tomatoes and all colours.
Where would I be without the wonderful encouragement of RB friends like you Arie – thank you so much for your inspiring words. A few years ago I was told that I would need to move away from realism if I was ever to succeed as an artist, but it always felt like I was struggling with myself by trying to squash it. Now I just think I’ll use it in a way that makes the viewer take a second look, and maybe put a smile on their face :))
Well you know what I think about realism and this is just superb. Using the wood as the support is a touch of genius and the detail and precision in all your work including this one is absolutely top drawer. Fantastic piece Karen, so very well done!! :)
Thank you so much Bryan – you are one of the artists who has inspired me with your work and made me realise that realism can still be creative and interesting!!! :)
