A red sail jukong landing on shore. I loved the contrast of the red sail against the blues of the water and sky. Jukongs are the traditional sailing vessels of the Cocos Malay community, used to gather coconuts for copra. Long gone are those days and now they are used for celebrations.
I photographed this jukong at Direction Island, one of the island in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands southern atoll. Cocos is part of Australia and a little known holiday destination.
