Capturing the night sky on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an external territory of Australia… To set up at the southern end of the International Runway, knowing you can stay there for as long as you like without interruption and take in the magnificent heavenly scene is awe inspiring.
For the walker / hiker West Island is just one huge walking track. Although not officially named, the “runway walk” is very popular as you are able to circumnavigate the entire runway without worrying about too many aircraft interruptions. Whether you do it early morning, during the day or like me, at night.. it is safe.
This is a twelve, vertical stitch pano, approximately 280 deg of the night sky taking in the “rainbow” of the milky way and eastern stars.
