OVER THE GREAT DIVIDE

OVER THE GREAT DIVIDE

The title of my
new piece is “Over The Great
Divide.” For those who don’t know,
the Continental or the “Great
Divide” in the Americas is the line
that divides the flow of water
between the Pacific Ocean and
Atlantic Ocean. Rain or snow that
drains on the east side of the
Continental Divide flows toward the
Atlantic Ocean while precipitation
on the west side drains and flows
toward the Pacific Ocean. The
continental divide runs from
northwestern Canada along the
crest of the Rocky Mountains to
New Mexico. Then, it follows the
crest of Mexico’s Sierra Madre
Occidental. In South America, the
Continental Divide lies along the
Andes.

The “Great Divide” runs from the
north though the center of
Yellowstone National Park and right
atop these massive mountains that
I have behind Sheldon and his
horse. The “Tetons” were named
by the early French fur traders that
thought when they first saw them
that they reminded them of
womens’ breasts! Thus the name,
“Grand Tetons!” The Tetons rise
13,770 feet above sea level from
the valley floor which is already
6,530 feet above sea
level.

The piece is traditional oils on
“museum-grade” Masonite and the
size is 18” x 24”.

What can I say Denny, another great piece of work. Forgot about getting back and thanking you for taking the time to meet at your store when my son Scott and I were in Cody during our trip to Yellowstone, to bad the time together was so short. After we left your store we spent time at “Old Trail Town” and got some nice shots, however I did no shoot as many photos as I originally intended too, the heat was a killer and drove us all back to our air condition covered wagon (Ford Expedition).
Thanks again for taking time out of your schedule to have even a short time to meet each other, keep up your fantastic work.
