KAPgsy

Vale, GUERNSEY

KAP (or kite aerial photography to give it its full name) was first introduced to me back in the summer of 2005 when a friend and work colleague pointed me in the direction of Flickr and a gentleman named Lenny.

I first met up with Lenny in Dec 05 who gave me a fine demo of what KAP is all about with 2 of his homemade kites.

Then there was a lengthy pause while I got sidetracked.

In the summer of 2008 I finally joined the very small worldwide KAPing community. Armed with Lenny’s FlowForm25 (my kite was on order and delayed) and my new camera ‘rig’ I took my first pictures on 11 August at Fort Le Marchant in Guernsey and the rest is history.

All of my photos can be viewed on Flickr.com at the address below. I am in the process of uploading my favourites to Red Bubble just in case you might like one for yourself (or a friend!)

Look for the sets labelled with KAP! I doubt you will be that interested in the other stuff. (Edit Nov 2010: My obsessions are spreading…… a light painting addiction is taking over for the winter now my evening KAP light has gone. See my Flickr stream and fire in some ideas!)

Thanks to my better half, Vicky, for letting me skive off from parental duties in order to pursue this (edit Nov 2010: not so) new hobby :-o

Noteworthy note!
If you are considering making a purchase then please bear in mind that the nature of KAP means that I am more often than not using a lightweight point and shoot camera to obtain these images. I’ve smashed a Nikon D60 and am therefore reluctant to risk my newer D5000, although it has been airborne maybe 10 times already (as at Nov 2010).
My images generally range from 3 to 6MP in size and these produce a good result as an A4 size. I have only printed a few examples on A3 to date and the results are mixed when point and shoot sourced, but certainly not disgraceful. DSLR is decent and I can severely crop and still end up with great detail. If you would like further advice then please do ask via bubblemail.
