Making space for the baby by KanaShow

I shot these fungi yesterday 12Oct2010. It has been raining a few days even though we had a bit of snow last week too. Anyway, I thought all the shroomies had already disappeared from the forest behind our house in Helsinki, Finland, but to my surprise I found many huge whitish ones there. Unfortunately my shroom bible is still to be found. I have no idea where I have put it, so I cannot identify the species.

I find it quite incredible that it seems that the bigger fungus is making space for the little one to emerge and grow. How does it know? F.I. – does it excist – Fungi Intelligence?

I believe it does! Studies are made on slime molds, specifically the Many-headed Slime………that have proven that it KNOWS where to go for food…and if it finds there isn’t any? It re-traces it’s way back to where it started to begin a new trail.
One reason that these are no longer in the ‘plant’ family.
LOVE that this DOES look like a big momma protecting her young. Lovely image Kana!

  • You are too kind, Carla. :)

Thanks a lot for that info about the slime molds. :) It is very interesting how the slime seems to know where to go. Would be nice to know where the intelligence is located in the slime creature. Maybe each cell has some kind of special parts for “thinking” or sensors for monitoring the environment. Who knows if F.I. is true as well. :)

I have rats and they have something called muscle memory. Their bodies learn by heart their surroundings and what there is. Then after a few times they have walked around, say, cage, they can run around it even without looking. Their bodies remember how to place feet and stuff. That is interesting, too, I think. :)

Hieno kuva ja otsikko :-) Löysin viime viikon pakkaskeleillä aika paljon jäätyneitä suppilovahveroita, ja mietin voisiko niitä käytää luonnon menetelmällä pakastettuina. Jätin kuitenkin sinne.

  • Hiih! Kiitti! :) Suppikset on niiiin nami! En kyl tiedä, voiko luonnonpakasteita käyttää. Epäilen vähän. Ehkä ihan hyvä, että jätit ne sinne mettään. :D
