The Longfin by Norbert Probst

I was hanging on a rope under the diving boat for a while, waiting for sharks. After 40 Minutes I saw two Oceanic Whitetip Sharks (Carcharhinus longimanus) deep below me. I went down to 37 meters. One shark realized my approach and came directly and very fast in front of my camera. Right in that moment I captured the picture and immediately he turned away to the second animal. Both left the scenery cruising into the blue.
Distance in the picture – measured by my camera – 1,16m.

The curious shark ~ the perfect subject. He fixed you with his wondering eye just long enough for you to catch his best side. Great movement, wonderful clarity… a triumph, Norbert!

  • A little bit too curious. But I’ve got a memorable picture for that. Thank you.
