We found this finned Grey Reef Shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) at the end of a dive in middle of a protected area.
The Maldive Tourism board said: “This image for sure is not taken at the Maldives.”
I know, nobody really wants to look at this. But we have to face the sad truth.

    People will never learn. If you take out an ecosystem’s apex predator the ecosystem changes irrevocably. And us humans are linked to all the other ecosystems on the planet, if they die out, we die out.
    It happened in the UK with wolves, hunted to extinction because farmers lost one or two sheep, now they complain about foxes, which species was keeping the fox numbers under control I wonder.
    We’ll never learn.

  • You’re right. In Germany we have the discussion about the cormorant. Last week the (protected) cormorant was announced as “bird of the year” and all sports fishermen are fighting against this decision…

    I wonder how they would like it if we cut of their arms gggggrrrrr this makes me so angry – knowledge is everything though so I am glad you posted. Such a sad sight to see, breaks my heart :-(
