I went into water in front of the restaurant of the Relais Royal Tikehau pension. Its a small channel with Blacktip Sharks (Carcharhinus limbatus) and a beautiful island in the background. A wonderful place to be, and I tried to capture both worlds with a split level image.

It’s a great shot, Norbert, no matter how you got it. I presume that these sharks are not threatening to humans?

  • No Nancy. Humans are threatening to the sharks! Thank you.

Just looked it up, and I guess that in certain situations, they CAN become aggressive. (interesting) I love the photo, anyway.

  • In special situations I can became aggressive too ;-)

I see what you mean by a “split level” image, Norbert. Am I surprised that there’s no one else in the water apart from you? No. Those sharks seem to be well camouflaged which would make them even more dangerous.

  • People watched me and the sharks from the restaurant ;-) This species is more shy than dangerous and I had to wait a long time without moving to get them into the pic. Thank you Gary.
