A few years ago I went to Cancun for 6 weeks to visit the Mayan sites and get to know the locals. I met a friend, Scott, who became my muse as he suggested I do some drawing connected with my experiences during this journey. For the first time in my life as an artist I drew spontaneously and created several pieces based on my experiences with images found in the Yucatan. It was hard to find good art supplies so I used a kiddie’s aquacolor set and fat brush. It was fun and rewarding.

This image is my version of a stela, or large, upright, carved rock, found at the Mayan ruins. Pen & ink with watercolor wash.
