Flash Drive Failure

The unthinkable happened to me yesterday.

My flash drive that holds ALL my images suddenly stopped working.

Eeek!! I paniced for about 3 hours before I finally gave up. There’s nothing that I could do in 3 hours, so there’s probably not anything that I can do after this. I do have advice for you though.

1. Back up ALL information from portable media such as flash drives, memory sticks, floppy disks, and portable hard drives onto discs. Discs have a much, much lower failure rate than these do.

2. Don’t keep your ONLY copy of important documents on a flash drive, in fact, always save it two or thee times in different places.

3. Don’t panic if this does happen… I can’t tell you how to fix it yet, because I’m still working on it, but panicing doesn’t help.

Also, I am open for advice if any of you know how to fix this.

Mine died once and it turned out to be a $5 battery (check-sum battery) I took mine to a Radio Shack that repairs computers. They cleaned mine up for $135.00 and restored only what I wanted.
I hope you find the problem.

There are programs you can get that may restore whatever data was on the drive or you can have it professionally done. I had a similar problem with a drive and was able to retrieve photos and other data using “Data Rescue II” – cost about $100 and it worked by finding the drive while attached to the usb port and then scanning for data. I am not sure what drive you have, but you may want to Google the drive and the problem with it. There are a lot of answers out there that may work. Good luck.
