Childish Dreams

At times,
I long for both the security
And lack of insecurity
That my former self had.

Ridden with dramatics, I was.
Delusions of grandeur, I had.
I really thought I’d
Be the first female astronaut,
Be the first female President, or
Win a Nobel Prize

But now,
I ask myself,
how?

It was a hard fall
From that pedestal I’d placed myself atop.
But maybe it’s not so bad after all,
Someone had to tell me to stop.

I recover, cautious,
With only the knowledge that I am human,
We are all human,
And we all err from time to time.
