Before the Steampunk Era, and before the evolution of small and efficient photophores, the world was ruled by evil squid who hoarded all the nice colour, and everything was black and white. When humanity rose up and overthrew them with the power of corsets and tea, the first colour we accessed in large amounts was sepia, derived from squid ink, which is why everything in the Steampunk Era was more or less brown.
Unfortunately, the ease with which we smashed the incandescent lamp organs of our cephalopod overlords provided a strong selection pressure, pushing the survivors to evolve photophores that don’t just break with a firm gaze. They may yet make another many-armed grab for world domination. Be vigilant. Remember.
Best on dark coloured tees.
