The Italian chapel, or Painted Chapel is in Lamb Holm on the Orkney Islands near Kirkwall. This fascinating building was entirely painted inside by the Italian POWs in WWII. It is constructed with two nissan huts joined together and embellishments are made from whatever was handy to the men at the time. The polished ‘marble’ inside the chapel, is in fact, highly polished concrete.
This is a place definitely worth visiting.
