Thelymitra crinita or Blue Lady Orchid – found in the bushland in Spring. One of the sun orchids, it will not open on cloudy days. It can grow to 70 cms tall, has a single, broadly oval shaped leaf, 5 to18 cm long and 2 to 4 cms across and flowers are arranged in a tall spike. Each flower has petals and sepals which are similar shape and a yellow tipped column crest. Spring Blooming. (information from Orchids of the South West- Dept Environ. & Conservation booklet).

These orchids found on the roadside on the way to Serpentine Dam in SW Western Australia.

I live in beautiful Western Australia, where we are lucky to a wonderful diversity of wildflowers, many of which appear in my portfolio.

Very nice Mik. Amazing what is just lying around in the bush isn’t it? Reminds me I got a shot of some of these when we were in Bridgetown a couple of weeks ago. Take care. Peter

  • I was pleased to see these open as only buds had presented themselves to me this year. I have been finding quite a few different plants this year, the problem has been naming them :)
