Calothamnus rupestris

Calothamnus rupestris otherwise known as Mouse Ears was found on the path leading up to the top of Harvey Dam in south west Western Australia.

This small tree is around 1-4m tall with bright red to pink flower iwth are about 3-4cm long and grow in bunches on one side of the branch. It has crowded needle like leaves about 1-3cm long, ending in sharp points. (information from Eddy Wajon-Spring Flowers – Perth and the Southwest)

There are approx. 40 species of evergreens endemnic to Western Australia, also called Net Bush and One-Side Bottlebrush, winter or spring flowering.

    My first thought on seeing this was that it was a form of one sided bottlebrush, then I read your great description and saw that it is, indeed, a member of the same family. Very well spotted and captured and it seems that wherever we go in our state there is some form of beauty just waiting to be photographed. Take care, Peter
