Grevillea - Prickly Toothbrush
Grevillea armigera, also known as Prickly Toothbrushes, is an erect shrub or tree which is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. The species was first formally described by Swiss botanist Carl Meissner in 1856.
It is a prickly-leafed shrub which grows to a height of between 1 and 3.6 metres. Its flowers mostly appear from early winter to late summer (June to February in Australia). These are grey, green, or pale yellow (occasionally flushed pink) with contrasting black to blackish maroon styles.
The species occurs in heath or shrubland in the northern wheatbelt region.

The black stamens make this grevillea very striking – I hope to photograph one of these myself one day!

Ciao Kala!
You have done a very good job on this Prickly Toothbrush with your li’l camera. A very interesting Grevillea indeed.
The flower is well within the frame and the combination of your point of view, good focus, aperture and focal point displays the habit of the subject very nicely and the plant’s foliage nicely blurred.
The exposure is good in the harsh light and the colours are beautifully natural.
Easy viewing and a nice floral study.

I’ll have to go look for these in King’s Park – don’t think I’ve seen them before. Very sharp detail, Kalaryder.

You will find them in the Roe Garden area, this bush is just below the grassed area overlooking the Swan
