There are at least 2 other ways. The one I use is I duplicate the original layer and then use the Polygonal selection tool to select the thing I want to be Selective Coloured. Then when I have selected it all cleanly, I cut it and paste it on a new layer. Then I return to the Layer I cut it from [ it has the background scene ] and choose Desaturate.
The other way is almost identical except people use the Eraser to rub the desaturated bit of the plant out, exposing the colours for the plant.
