Xylomelum occidentale
Xylomelum occidentale or Western Woody Pear is a West Australian tree which reaches to 8m in height and has a spreading crown with dark brown flaky bark. It has oak-like leaves but with prickly edges. The flowers are held in creamy sprays during summer and are followed by pear shaped fruit up to 10 cm long, which ripen to a red/brown.
The genus consists of 5 evergreen species and can take up to 20 years from seed to flower.
