Skara Brae

Skara Brae is on the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland. We reached it via a very lumpy passage on a small ferry boat, which tossed and pitched with unwelcoming waves. It was fine on deck, providing that the fingers which gripped rails were not frozen and clothes not drenched in rain. However, when we reached the shore and joined our coach trip, the sun came out.

Skara Brae is an ancient settlement and the picture here shows a prosperous home with stone dresser and seating arrangements. There are several ‘open’ homes within the village complex and is well worth a visit.
