Columns
Temple of Artemis, Jerash, Jordan – dating back to 150 AD these columns were designed to sway gently to absorb the effects of earth tremors and high winds. This is demonstrated by tour guides inserting a metal spoon between the drums at the base of the column. Architects take note – the technique obviously worked as the columns are still standing 2000 years later…
