You know you're a writer when you know 5 other words for “blue”.

Number 1: baby—baby blue isn’t one I like to use
because I don’t view you like babies do.
But, baby, just maybe
I’d baby you blue
just to give new meaning to that shaded hue.

Number 2: cerulean—because your eyes
are more than just blue, and surely you
know that cerulean eyes sparkle
and smile and smirk and sizzle
the way blue eyes never would.

Number 3: sad—when children paint tears
they paint them blue
because
“when you’re blue, you’re sad”—
like a mood ring round your finger
tears will linger, sad and blue.

Number 4: ocean—like the sea that you can spot from space
while waiting for your white-like winter
spaceship
to hone in on home
and take you there,
break you in, like a robber, right through the blue—

Number 5: sky—where I’ll meet you
halfway between home and high-up heights
because, with you, I feel like flying.
