Extinction 09.3 #2
acrylic/oil/wax/graphite on canvas 60” x 36”
This is the final painting in the Extinction series
The work owes a huge debt to my friend CC Arsharga and his wonderful poem ‘I am the whale of poems’
Go ahead and eat me
For you are the reasons of teeth and claw
You are the cries of reality is
You are a killer of whales
Because you can
Because you care not with your mighty ways
Because you are a hunger that feeds aimlessly
Because you love greed
Because your ego is sick
Because you die daily into nothing in order to exist
Because your mother is your food
Because you are lifeless at the heart of the world feeds you
Because your future is futile
Because your truth has no known equilibrium
Because you love these words
Because you feel them stab you
Because you bleed
Because your extinction matters not
Because you want to be as brave as dying
Because … you understand this poem still
You have no cause to own the deeds that you are
Because life’s carcass holds no sacred value to you
Because you cannot kill yourself with your own reasons
Because you are a coward in the oceans of selfishness
And I am just the whale of poems
And you hate poems
And you do not even care if your own soul is hunted
For you are the predator who fears to admit
You are the very same prey

wow, kafka… wasn’t sure i’d see one i liked more than extinction 08 #4, but this just might be it. spectacular color composition. excellent work!
kafka replied
Hi Ray – When I finished this I wasn’t all that sure about it – but it’s growing on me a lot…....it might be my favourite of the whole series yet!
ieneke jansen
This is absolutely brilliant!!! I love your choice of colors and blending. I could stare at this one for a very long time. Great work :)
kafka replied
Hi ieneke – thank you for your lovely comment – I’m glad that you like it (I have been staring at it for a very long time! :-)))

A Fabulous conclusion to the series Kafka. Wonderful deep textured colours, contrasting with the sharp lines. I enjoyed reading your journal on this series and the translation of your thoughts on maps and perspective. It’s interesting how our perceptions are dictated by linear perspective and this is something I wrestle with in the context of architectural drawings and how they are legible, I guess much like maps, elevations are not necessarily bound by a fixed viewpoint.
Anyway, I’ve rambled too much, it is a fantastic piece of art!
kafka replied
Hi Nathan – thank you for your thoughtful comments and don’t worry about rambling (I’m the last person who could complain about that!:-)
StacyLee
Powerful work! I’m very fond of this!
kafka replied
Hi Stacey, thank you for your very kind comment….........x

Kafka, has the Tate modern finished that room for you yet!
This is so fantastic it should be hanging in a Gallery.
kafka replied
see below…....hit the wrong button again!!! duh.
kafka
Hi M….......x :
)))) There are so many oil glazes on it that, by the time its dries (if it ever does) ,the Tate modern will be the Tate ancient!...............anyway, who needs the Tate when we’ve got PiMT :)))Fee Dickson
Love the blues and golds :). More than that, I like the edges of green creeping in, and the point of energy ( not sure how else to describe it!)
Do you have the full set presented together anywhere? are they going to be exhibited in the Uk?
kafka replied
Hi Fee ! – thank you for your comment, I liked the green bits too!
I don’t have the full set because two of them have been sold, one of them I destroyed (I think it was 04, the twin towers one) and one of them I painted over (05 which became ‘Extwave’) the ones that are left are up for sale – if there are any left I have a gallery slot at the beginning of Sept. where I might show them. if it’s on, I will post details when I know for sure.

love the depth of those blues, your flying really has paid off! the relief in the ocean-floor is amazing, and the hint of reflection in the window.
i want to run my fingers across those ridges, i’d love to see the whole series displayed in a gallery and just sit there in the middle and take it all in
great to see some of the process too!
kafka replied
Hi Marie! – thank you for your lovely comment – the series has been broken up (see comment above) but I have got a few ideas on using prints of the full set…........this one is the biggest (and tastiest :-)

I hate to sound like a pesky sycophant – but this really is rather quite good
Where can we go to really dive in to it?
(I would suggest the FDG ‘abstract’ thread…..

And I thought you were colour-blind…:)
posted as suggested (and ambushed already :-))))lol

My dear and sacred friend,
You have lifted the sound and silent joy of my soul. And the timing could not be more divine of hope. It is beyond an honor to have touched your creative passion at all, not to mention that one of my poems could have touched your creative will so profoundly. My gratitude is eternal and unfathomable. To say you are my sacred friend is to do so by no small measure. May I say here, the sincere depth in which you value and appreciate the words I write cannot be measured at all, and transcends the realms of pricelessness. I am so blessed that you exist in my life at all. May you never become extinct and may all the future art forms of life be blessed by your living creative leavings here. ‘Whale On’ my sacred friend.
