Last weekend my family and I followed the crowds to the Ginger Flower Festival at the Buderim Ginger Factory at Yandina on the Sunshine Coast. The weather was the usual warm sunny and humid weather we love up here although possibly a little over my personal optimum operating conditions! The kids absolutely loved the gardens, including the reforested rainforest and the spectacular and massively varied ginger flowers. I don’t think even I – the horticulturalist in the group understood how many amazing varieties there were!
The kids feasted on home made ice cream and we feasted on ginger and ginger beer of course.
Admittedly despite the floral abundance and glamour my kids favourite part was the train ride around the farm and factory site on the historical cane train with carriages that replicated the tram carriages that used to carry sunshine coast visitors in the last century.
I have included some images of the flowers in the Vibrant plants group and in everyday life I have posted a couple of the kids and I on the “Moreton” train that was such a thrill.
It was a wonderful day out, my only recommendation might be that we go on a weekend before or after the official ginger flower festival next year to avoid the crowds!
