Someone mentioned on another site that she remembers being asked a test question in grammar school, “does the Statue Of Liberty really have sandals on her feet?”
Yes, she has sandals on her feet, she’s moving forward with one foot lifted. She has the mark of the early Romans (toes) still visible in many people today – second toe is longer than big toe and little toe is “hammered”. :)
“Is the Statue of Liberty in New York or New Jersey?”
The statue is part of New York Harbor and sits in Liberty State Park which is in Jersey City, New Jersey. The statue is actually in New Jersey. New York Harbor includes the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the first stop for all immigrants (1892 – 1954) who arrived in New York by boat.

Gorgeous… I just got back from Ellis Island today so I’m looking to see if I have anything even close to this!

Can’t wait to see your photos! This was taken from a boat tour around the tip of Manhattan. My sister and her family came up from Florida for a visit over the summer. They stayed in Times Square and I took them on a tour of Lower Manhattan. I’m in Jersey so New York is one of my favorite places to visit!

Lovely shot of the statue, nice bit of history too

After my trip to Rome, I understand how difficult it is to cature a tall statue in perspective and fit it completely into the one shot, (hence none appear in my portfolio lol) so I appreciate your framing of your subject. The sky and its glow upon the statue is also particularly impressive. Love it!
Nanmarie
Perfect. I just love the tones and all of the small people on the landing. A wonderful perspective.

Congratulations on the home page feature, this is a great image of Lady Liberty! Sme more trivia: The 2nd toe being longer than the big toe is also known as ‘Morton’s Toe” and indicates a genetic predespositon to celiac spru (gluten intolerance).

Oh, thank you for that information and thanks so much for stopping by!
