Wall Street courtesan by Joseph Walrave

Wall Street courtesan by

With all the demonstrations on Wall Street this year (2011) and basically all the demonstrations throughout Europe against the corporate banks I had to think about some of the lines in the song ‘Gone’ by U2. You can also project the lyrics on people getting specific opportunities and losing themselves along the way.

Featured work in:
- Sketching And Drawings
- Painters Universe
- Illustrated Pinup

Part of the lyrics of ‘Gone’ by U2:
“You get to feel so guilty, got so much for so little
Then you find that feeling just won’t go away
You’re holding on to every little thing so tightly
‘Til there’s nothing left for you anyway”

“You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to lose yourself along the way
You change your name, well that’s okay, it’s necessary
And what you leave behind you don’t miss anyway”

You’re taking steps that make you feel dizzy / (Gone)
Then you learn to like the way it feels / (Gone)
You hurt yourself you hurt your lover / (Gone)
Then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed / (Gone)

This is really excellent. I love the over all slick looking surface of the room – how the body posed in a mocking defiant stance toward the landscape of its own creation, but then the stare back to the viewer, showing I think the real disfigured face of someone ravaged by substance-less choices. that’s what I’m getting anyway, and what the song is saying to me as well. This really spoke to me. Thanks.

  • Excellent review! Many thanks! Kind regards, Joseph Walrave
