Monty Blue Eyes by Meg Hart

I encountered dear little Monty at a Pony Club Dressage event whilst pencilling for my cousin Gwyn, who was judging. Wish I could have shot him going through his paces but pencilling and photographing simultaneously are, of course, impossible.
However, not being able to forget his beautiful blue eyes, I later searched for and found him, being prepared for the trip home. I Iearned that the family had rescued Monty (now 7) virtually on his way to the glue factory. He was quite unmanageable, but after months of patient TLC, he calmed down and his young rider took over and, single-handedly, schooled him for eighteen months to become the clever little sweetheart he now is.

On Sunday he won “The Jackpot” (best combined scores for Dresage and Jumping in his class )!!

Go Monty Blue Eyes!!

what a nice looking fellow — is an Arab I wonder? (my wife has recently become infatuated with horses)

  • Probably has some Arab in him, judging by his dish-shaped face. Horses are nice things to be infatuated with. Thanks for checking him out Harry. :)

Meg, congrats on your feature. What a lovely horse. It is hard to believe that his previous owners wanted to get rid of him. Fortunately, his guardian angle watched over him.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful capture and story.

  • Hi Karina, thanks for taking the time to read Monty’s story. It is my pleasure to share it with those who care. :)

Monty is gorgeous… I hope they look after his eyes and nose with sunburn… He looks like his left eye has a small cancer on it. The black bubble on his bottom eyelid… Top photo. A fly veil with nose protection is good.
Love the rosette on his bridle! Congrats to his young owner on the Dressage/Jumping Combo!

  • You are so observant. I didn’t enlarge that eye for that very reason Helen!…I believe they look after him pretty well. He has already had one melanoma removed and I think that one is next. I got the impression that they do all that is possible to protect him from sun damage as he is much loved.
