Nothing Much

Nothing Much by Justin French

Nothing Much

I was dragged by my beloved to one of those shopping centers/malls that seem to engulf an entire suburb. If you’re in Melbourne, you know which one. It’s been a couple of years since I bought a tee in a retail store (sites like RedBubble make it so much easier) so I decided I’d go check out what’s available in local stores… Pretty much the same crap on offer years ago.

Apparently all you need to do to make fashionable tees is pick a font, type nothing particularly meaningful (you get bonus points if you just mash the keyboard with your fist), apply a worn-out grungy look to it (yes, it’s vintage!), print it on the crappiest garment you can buy, then apply a generous profit.

So here it is. My non-violent, passive, profiteering protest to retail tee design in Melbourne for the last 3 years. It’s Nothing Much, but apparently this is okay with the masses.

You didn’t put a high enough margin on it, good job otherwise

Yes, well we all have our own set of morals and standards… I couldn’t bring myself to profit any more than this off their laziness. Honestly, I don’t expect to sell a single unit either!

LOL….I actually like this Justin. Was reading an article online today which showed a T-shirt shop designed like a deli with all the T-shirts folded on display in the glass front like a butchers shop displays meat. Apparently all you have to do is pick your colour, font and bad slogan, and they whip it up while you wait.

If I drag my better half to the centre you mentioned, he hides in the magazine section of Borders.

It’s great. I love it. Just a small tweak. Can we get rid of the writing? I’m not sure it will appeal to our target audience.

Cool T-shirt, sorry you got dragged around though, I don’t do that to my husband…... I mean myself anymore :) Hey, has a “don’t beat around the bush” T- shirt been done already ? I really need to learn how to make these, it seems like a lot of fun :)

LOL….....I have been guilty of lurking in the art section of Borders too many times. I actually sneak my take-away coffee cup in there and find a seat…..........next thing you know 2 hours have passed and I am still only half way through the latest coffee table book on graphic design principles. I have a $300 gift voucher for Borders which I haven’t used yet because I can’t make up my mind which books to buy.
