About This Drawing
This also is a combination of two works – a graphite pencil drawing of a stallion letting rip with his feelings of spring, and behind it I’ve placed a preparatory sketch I made of some farm buildings on State Highway 1 between Cambridge and Hamilton, a road that at one time I drove every working day.
The Cambridge area is known for being one of New Zealand’s most intensive bloodstock breeding locations, which was why I took a job that allowed me to move up there. There are many studs of world renown there, probably the most famous being Paul Hogan’s Cambridge Stud, home of the great Irish stallion Sir Tristram.
Graphite pencil on drawing stock, 14 × 9 in.
