About This Drawing
This is actually a composite of 2 pencil drawings – the stallion headstudy, and a field sketch I made of a haybarn at a place called Rata in the central North Island when I was on a geology field trip there some years ago.
The stallion was a horse called Sound Reason – bred in the USA and imported into New Zealand to stand at stud in the Wairarapa after his racing career was over. I had the opportunity to visit him and take some photographs, so I had plenty of reference material when it came to doing this drawing.
