About This Painting
This was prompted by a recent front page article in The New Zealand Herald discussing the likelihood of volcanic events in Auckland in the not-too-distant future (geologically speaking), and reporting on recent scientific predictions about what form they might take.
Cheer up boaties – it appears scientists consider a marine eruption more likely than an eruption on land. This painting depicts an imaginary slice of marine geology in Hauraki Gulf, where the volcanic cone of Rangitoto Island oversees all activity in the harbour.
The fossils were painted from sketches I made in the paleo lab work for Geology 101.
Symbolic style acrylic painting on Arches Dessein 160gsm art paper. Painting size 16.75 × 24.75in.
Sold to a former Aucklander living in Dunedin, NZ.
