About This Painting Gunn Range is in the Southern Alps above the West Coast, and the Butler is a tributary of the Whataroa River. This scene is about 2 days’ walk from the Whataroa Bridge on State Highway 6 just north of Whataroa township. This is the same river that features in my Rain on the Butler painting.
Painted in acrylic on canvas board, 30 × 25.25 in, this work now lives on the Gold Coast, Australia, with friends who used to own the gallery and framery where I had my works framed when I lived in Hamilton.
You have captured the lovely feeling of the softness of NZ light using the acrylics. Funny thing to think this painting lives somewhere near me now.
Thank you Robyn! Well it lives in a place caqlled Caloundra – or at least, that’s where these people moved to, and I think they opened another gallery.
very love, mellow and peaceful work Patricia, i love your mountains and trees… so soft
Thank you Karin – that made my day. It’s been a bit of work getting this old scan of an old photo looking decent enough to come on here. Thank goodness for my new digital camera!
76 years in the hobby of painting and I still get excited to find something new to me (some of the old things have stopped exciting me). Your work does the trick for me and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a style quite like it before. I do like so many things about your paintings, not least your colours, tone, blending, contrasts and composition. Oh, and perhaps best of all is your imagination, particularly with those fantasy pictures. I look forward to seeing more.
Brian, this is a wonderful comment, and I truly thank you. I apologize for not answering before, but have been (and still am) very busy illustrating a book. Just came here to add a few artworks and catch up. Your comment is so very encouraging!
Having illustrated a couple of books a long time ago, I know how much work and time it can take. However, what a delight for you when it’s all finished and on the shelves and hopefull selling well. For my own amusment I wrote three books (sc-fi and comedy) but didn’t illustrate them or try for publication – too much competition. However, I now have them on Amazon book store to download on Kindle and other e-readers which has given me a bit of a kick for the novelty of it. Good luck with your project, with your talent I’m sure it wil be a great success.

Beautiful!!
Thank you very much – this is probably the most “orthodox” of my landscapes, a bit less “out there” than most of my stuff – but Im glad I posted it!
