About This Graphic
Commissioned illustration – one of a series for a NZ Forest Service publication “West Coast Forests”. This one really was a very cool illustration to do.
Unfortunately, when I hastily grabbed a photocopy of it before it went to NZFS, the only copier available gave me a grungy result..
Years later I scanned it in, and decided it didn’t come out too badly, because the distressed look of the copy kind of suits the subject. I scanned it in color, and shifted the hues into the greens.
There are many places in New Zealand where the relics of past industries can be found standing out in the landscape. I have my own photos of what I’ve seen, and I’d like to do a series one day.
Black ink on Art Paper 5 × 7.5 in. Reference photo supplied by NZ Forest Service.

Wow, this must have taken a while! Nice work!
Thank you Kim – yes it did take awhile – and a while to get it looking good in digital form too, but I thought being such an unusual subject was worth it.

that’s a beauty and i love the grunged up effect too :) lol…albeit it happened naturally, even better :)
Hey Karen you are right. As I was struggling to tidy it up I thought – “Hey, there are people spending time and money MAKING things look grungy – what am I stressing over?” LOL
