Bull Elk in the Roar by Patricia Howitt
About This Graphic
When I became Executive Officer of NZ Deerstalkers, I had already done a number of artworks of New Zealand game animals, including this pen and ink of a bull elk in the roar.
Before my first National Conference in Gisborne, the local branch asked me for a piece of artwork to promote the conference locally, and I sent them this sketch. I was totally blown away, when I arrived in Gisborne on opening night, to find the pen and ink had been run as the full front page cover of a full-size newspaper insert in that day’s Gisborne Herald.
For this artwork, I’ve layered the drawing with an abstract wet-on-wet acrylic piece done more recently.
