About This Painting
The location for this painting is in Whangarei Harbour on the inner side of Bream Bay, Northland, New Zealand (Aotearoa).
You can see this view from a lookout on State Highway 10 just south of Whangarei city. It is a wonderful vista, from the mangroves on the nearer shoreline to Parua on the opposite coast and Whangarei Heads in the distance. A little closer to the city (on the left of this painting) an industrial area is beginning to encroach on the shoreline flats.
It was an awareness of this “march of civilisation” across the face of mother nature that prompted me to paint this silent, watching figure looking out, probably in the warm morning light of a summer’s day, across the harbour she loves.
Acrylic on canvas. Exhibited at 1999 Newman Northland Art Awards Exhibition -
Whangarei. Sold to a collector in Whangarei NZ.
