Rain on the Butler by

About This Painting
A rainy day in the upper waters of the Butler River, a tributary of the Whataroa River, Westland, New Zealand. Two days jouirney on foot from the rivermouth.

On a day like this, the sound of the river as it churns its way down the great boulder banks, drowns out everything else.

Oils on board 20 × 31in. Exhibited in the Kerikeri Art Society New Year Exhibition 1986. Sold to a visiting collector from Christchurch NZ.

I have been looking at all your work here and thoroughly enjoying all of it. This may be my favorite, but it’s difficult to choose, it is grand to get so much insight into a part of the world I’ve never seen.

  • Thank you Syd – from what I’ve seen of your work, I think you would love it. We are small-scale of course, but we have some wonderfully majestic and inspiring scenery.
