<font size='1'>hi everyone
just wondering if any of you had any suggestions for me;
i’m looking to buy my first “proper” camera – as in, not a crappy digital one
just wondering if any of you know where i could buy one?
one that’s cheapish but still good quality
and what look for/look out for
and any other helpful info?
thanks a bunch

Hi Gemma,
If you’re looking for a film camera – I always used Canons. You can pick up Canon EOS film camera’s now for a song – expecially recently used ones. The advantage is if you move to a Canon EOS Digital SLR (I have a 40D and absolutely love it) you can use any lenses you bought for the film one.
If you’re after a digital SLR and not wanting to pay toooo much, try for a second-hand one. I guess then you just have to trust whoever is selling it to you and test everything to make sure it works okay.
If you like night shots, look for a camera that will program shutter openings up to 20 or 30 seconds.
Oh, and the one thing NOT to skimp on is the lenses. Save and buy a good one rather than picking up a cheaper one sooner. It’ll make a world of difference.
Good luck!

thanks for your help friartuck! (:

i agree with friartuck. i’ve bought a canon 30D about 12 months ago and it takes a great photo and there are plenty of choices for lenses. buy L series lenses if you can afford it (i know they’re pricey but worth it). – naomi

I use Canon too – I have a Canon 350D, and use my older lenses from my first SLR, which is also a Canon. You can pick up the next generation Canon 400D for under $1000 if you look hard enough. This is a great entry level digital SLR, that I’d recommend.
