Julian completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts in 1995, in Ballarat Australia, majoring in Painting. His final year folio strongly focused on the landscape around the Flinders Rangers after an inspiring week long field trip. After a brief stint in childrens’ book illustration Julian moved into graphic design, winning several awards during his studies. In 2002 Julian established his own graphic design studio Newman Creative.
Julian’s images capture the landscape in its simplest form, breaking it down to an abstract form and colour. These images illuminate the warmth and beauty of the Australian landscape which has inspired him during several trips to Central and Northern Australia. Even the simplest of structures have made lasting impressions.
Recent works portray the local/rural roadside farming scenes of Central Victoria, again capturing the major forms and attributes of the landscape and condensing into a precise motive and expression.
