Julialala! I’ve totally missed your recent stuff, been busy with my own head ,)
Strong characteristics with good choice of colours. Nice blend of purple as in you “hair”. Hmmm .. what does that mean..?
Julialala replied
Oddly enough, one of my other friends pointed out that there’s purple in this as well as in my hair in the other painting, they also wondered what the connection was… The reason I chose purples for this is because it’s a colour I see a lot when I hear the Dykeenie’s music (I’m a synesthete) and I was listening to their music when I painted my self portrait, so perhaps I was just conveying the music through my art… Or do you think there’s another reason???
Christer Fribrock
Drugs? Kidding.. ;0) When I went to art school we where not allowed to play music during our sessions. Of cause. The is a connection and I believe music is stronger than art. Rhythm, birdsong and all other sound were imprinted into man, probably before art. Art is dance, motion, drawing motions and magic, things that came out of sounds.
Then I believe you have purple period and it therefore was a choice, not necessary conscious. It appeals in your subconsciousness until you fully control it and then maybe you choose another colour after a while until you control all the spectra.
This was the simplified version, the other demands a bottle of wine ;0)

What you’ve said here is very interesting, but I’m currently too sleepy to take it all in, hehe. But I wanted to reply to your comment before I forgot. =]
I’m intrigued by what you say, that music is stronger than art – I wonder if you may be right. Personally, music and art are both so important to me, but for slightly different reasons. My art is me, it’s an expression of me in my truest form, creating something that’s in my head, or in my heart, but, as you know, all my art is inspired by music. Purple is the Dykeenies’ colour. I don’t know why. Perhaps there’s a similar sound in all their songs that triggers purple in my brain, but I see it everytime I hear them. I’ve tried to isolate each instrument to a colour, and I think perhaps purple is Brian’s voice, but I cannae be sure. (And I still love the word cannae !) I’d be lost if I wasn’t able to express myself through my art, I express myself through my poetry, but that’s more… my reaction to situations I’ve been in and so on. But not my art, my art is special, each picture I do is a pump of my heart.
Music is different. In art, you have total solace, you can do what you want, and be entirely free in your own mind. But when you listen to music, even instrumental, there’s something that you can relate to. You can find someone to share your feelings or thoughts without ever getting to know that person. I love how music connects complete strangers, but still lets them exist worlds apart. You know what I think about music from what I wrote on The Art Of Pain homepage, I needn’t repeat myself.
I like your thinking though, and we must definitely discuss this further, with a bottle of wine, as you say, hehe.
Thanks very much for your interpretation!

Thank you, Julia!
Lots to ponder and I will. In time you’ll get my development from this. This is fun! Like two scholars discussing the Holy Grail or something.
Thank and sleep tight.
Chris – Sleepy eyes too… ZZzzzzz

CONGRATULATIONS- FEATURED IN A FACINATING PURPLE

13th November, 2009
Liking the way you’ve isolated the person in a sea of purple, like a window…anyways it’s very interesting!
Julialala replied
Thank you so much, this is one of my favourite pieces and it’s a real compliment to have it featured in the group!!
I really like what you said about isolating him, like in a window.. I think you’ve summed up a lot of the emotion I was trying to capture in it. Thank you! =]
