My Dad's homemade camera's by Juilee Pryor

My father used to make the most wonderful cameras for a hobby and the series of panoramas that I am uploading at the moment was taken with one of these splendid specimens. They always seem to deliver a better photo for him but I maintain that the mistakes I made with mine made for a more interesting image in the end. An agument that was never resolved to be honest as everybody has such different ways of viewing the same thing.

Yes they are cool arn’t they. The v shape you can see on top of the boxes is the viewfinder. What you can’t see is the litte tiny circular spirt level bubble I sit on top of the box so I can see if its level. But these ones will attach to a standard tripod with the help of a little dodad thing that Dad made for them. Originally he made the first one from a old Port box for a laugh and a dare and it worked so well that he just went on with it from there. Wonderful stuff really special things these.

god ! i wish your dad did one for me as well ! They look amazing ! and the panoramics you’ve done with are just beauiful. Are they cross processed?

just love “cheap” photography so much.

Hi sasufi thanks for the comments. Dad used to make them on commission for friends of his but he has now past away. He would have loved Redbubble. The panoramas are not crossprossed or in anyway adjusted beyond what you do in a wet darkroom at any rate. And like you I just love cheap photography. I love toy cameras and strange old cameras and all the unexpectedness of the results.

By the way, Juilee if you like basic photography, check out Zeb Andrews on Flickr. He has some pin-hole work that will blow you away. He is also very approachable, if you want to contact him regarding equipment, etc. He would probably be interested in the story of your dads cameras also.

    Cheers, Rany
