some mornings I get up early and go and watch the sun come up…. and you know it’s always the same… the sun comes up and the day begins…. but within the sameness of the sun coming up every single morning … there are some amazing differences…. this sunrise over the Pacific was just so blood red I couldn’t believe it… lucky I had a camera about my person…. and check out the way cool double image of the sun on the dark surface of the water…. that’s been happening in a lot of my sunrise shots of late so I figure it’s the lens I’m using although the position of the reflected/refracted sun changes somewhat and it’s only ever happens with the rising sun…… which is cool … I love the mystery of it….
.

this was shot with fuji 400 film and has been resized from the scan to be uploaded here and not a single other thing has been done to it…..

it is a lovely shot :) i love the hovering clouds

  • thanks dimsim…. the sun and the ocean are always the same old same old but it’s the air and the clouds that make all the difference to it…. a good cloudy morning with breaks in the cloud cover are the best mornings to watch this all happen……. adds so much drama….. :)

Red sky in morning – Sailor’s warning.
Hope you didn’t try to chat any sailors up.

  • nah the sailors are all on their ships this time of day… often fisher folk about but they never talk to anyone except the damned fish…. oh and the surfing fraternity…. I don’t think I"ve ever seen the sea around here with out a few grommits catching a few waves in it… and that’s no matter what time of day or what sort of temperature it is….. brrrrr I just meander about in my ugg boots and scarf and hat and then go home for some revivafiying tea…..and that is mostly me and exercise done with for the day…. :)

love the sun reflection in the water

  • hi Tracy…. that sun reflection is mavellous hey…. it only happens in the rising sun shots I take… no other time…. you can see the clouds across the sun more clearly in the reflection that in the actual sun…. I’ve got dozens of these double suns now….. has to be the lens but I don’t know what’s going on to be honest….. glad you like though……:)

Surfers would be too busy focusing on their first joint for the day to talk.

  • ahem yes most likely…. that prebrekky joint is the best one of the day…. so I"ve been told anyhow…..:)

    Amazing refraction! (and colour!)

  • hey thanks Mel…the refraction is so cool hey….it’s really what makes this special otherwise just another sunrise…. I’m being tongue in cheek…. the rising sun never comes close to boring me ….. and so far it’s never failed to rise…. and that has to be a pretty good thing I reckon…..:)

One of the nice thing about winter is you don’t have to get up very early to catch the sun coming up.

Where the sun sets and rises is quite a profound thing. I am from Perth and the sun sets over the ocean. I remember swimming at Manly in Sydney and no sun setting over the ocean just did not seem right. It was strangely disorientating

  • hi Andy… I know what you mean… I grew up in Adelaide so am well aquainted with the beauty of the sun setting into the water…. but I’ve been here so long that now the sun rising out of the water is just so right….. love it…. and yes the sun has been know to rise at the very reasonable time of around 7ish in the cool wintertime… summers a bit more work involved but at least it’s hot enough to have an early morning swim as well while your out and about….. hey it’s all good….. :)

Juilee, what a beautifull capture. i love photographing sun sets and rises. no two are a like. I just spent a couple of weks up in Arnhem Land, the sunsets were awesome. Well done. Wayne

  • hi wayne and wow how lucky are you to have spent time in Arnhem Land…. that would have been extremly fantastic…. it’s on my must do before I pop my clogs list for sure….. and yes the start and end of the day spent in quiet contemplation make up for what ever else happens in the rest of your day….. thanks for having a look at these shots……:)
