I had to to into the city last week to organize some detail regarding an upcoming exhibition and afterwards I wandered back to Circular Quay and took some snaps of the wonderful towers of glass and stone that dominate that part of the city. Later on I processed the film I had shot in every so slightly oxidized film developer which has given me the most strangely odd texture to the final images….. I just love the way there are so many points to intervene with analouge…. sometimes that’s a bad thing and you lose everything but sometimes the risks are worth it and a really unexpected but interesting result takes place….. like in this shot and the next few I upload.

I love strong shapes in architecture and the way that you can see patterns all around in the built environment…… the image is of the roof line of the Sydney Sofitel Hotel in Philip Street Sydney. The building is actually more of a horseshoe shape but no matter… I love it for its strong but defiantly non towering presence in this forest of megabuildings down by the harbour.

thanks you but really it’s was the lens and the angle of the dangle …… you know how these things go…I really like the texture of the surface…. like a grey rain is coming down from somewhere….. glad you like it though……:)

great shot juilee!! (chifley square is the name of the area!)

  • hi Steve…..yes Chifley Square….it’s a wonderful area…so towering with all the huge buildings and the Renzo Piano building all looming over the harbour and the Opera House….. I love it…. and I’m going back to take more snaps real soon….it’s fun to find an alternative perspective to fixed forms like these buildings……:)

This is wonderful, Juilee. It reminds me of NY. The circular building catch my attention, too.

  • thanks heaps Patricia…. and yes the old style sandstone buildings of Sydney are a bit like the old style brownstone buildings in NY I think….. so glad you like this crazy building…..:)

Great POV The hook wraps around you and the Finish was well worth the risk. Has given the image great character

  • Hi Andy…. yes I love the distorted line of the building…. and the dodgy things I do with film…. well I have been know to waste quite a bit of film that way…. but when odd my little experiments work…. it’s all worth it…..:)

Great POV…Love it to bits JP!

  • thanks Antoine….I’m glad you like it…..it’s quite a small building actually only about six or so stories high which makes it a midget in the area it’s located…..but the angles of the building fascinate me…..:)
