Well I’m having soooo much fun posting these old handcoloured photo’s that I’m just going to keep on doing it……all this is down to the wonderful Mel Brackstone who set me thinking about the idea of handcoloured images and what it all means these days.
This is a simple snapshot of some roses with just a light oil paint glaze over it so it remains as translucent as possible. Without the added colour I fear it would be a trifle dull as an image but the seductive quality of the paint gives it that tiny bit extra that it needs to work well as an image.
You’re a bloody star JP. On the larger image the 3D effect is a gobsmack.
hey thanks I’m blushing…. I love the effect of the paint… the real tactile sensous effect of the paint doesn’t really translate on the screen….and digital hand colouring and selective colouring are lovely too ….mostly….. but the real deal is something else. mostly people want to touch them which is the acid test in some ways…..
Gorgeous work, J……………love what you have done with these……….so good.
hey Linda… thanks… these are a bit old now but whatever…… still pretty enough to post I reckon …….:)

The good old days of photography!! I’d swap hand colouring for the living hell of Photobloodyshop, anyday!
howdy there Roy boy….. yes the old days of analouge hey…this is how they used to do selective colouring in the olden daze…..:) it’s fun to play around with paints like this…. more random than with photoshop … mind you that can also be a lot of fun……
it has so much depth that I just want to reach down and smell the rose. Beautiful!!
thanks Boadicea…. it’s the nature of the photo oils that seems to enhance the depth in images….. more so than with a digital handcoloured image I think….
Comes across to me as a very stylized image. Great detail in the blooms. Thumbs up
there is a formal element in the compostition but it’s not an image I would other wise use….so the application has kind of saved it really from being a bit dull………but still I’m glad you like it…….:)

Oh yes Iwouldn’t have loked twice or once for that if it had been a straight photo. It is the painting that makes this image
somehow it still achieves a romantic feel within the brambled and blue toned setting….bravo……. old and lovely………..b
hey thanks darlin …. old and lovely I can live with that…..:)
