the long red road out of town by

Ok I’ve been sorting and scanning a bunch of stuff to do with Broken Hill and am now going to upload some taken with a tiny plastic panarama camera. This shot of the red dirt road just out of town was taken when I spent my last day there hanging out with the local postie. For a small consideration he will come and get you at your hotel and take you with him when he does his once a week run to the outlying stations……. we set out at around 8am and got back just before 6pm and visited around ten properties. We took mail, beer, carparts and gossip from town…… it was one of the most amazing little trips I think I’ve ever done….. I got to open and shut about 37 paddock gates and god only knows how many kilometres we travelled….. but bear in mind that a paddock in this part of the world is around ten kilometres square……… and trust me thats a lot of space filled with low scrubby bush, more red dust than you can possibly imagine and maybe a million kangaroo’s and feral goats…… if any one ever tells you that ’roo’s are in short supply in this country….. well just don’t buy into it…… their numbers are almost incaluable…… there are massive great huge mobs of them out here in the lush semi-desert of Broken Hill….and its a remarkable thing to see a huge mob of ‘roos take off and bound away in a great undulating wave over the red sandy dunes….. it’s marvellous country to visit…. the desert is rich and alive ……I love it

Fighting off mobs off marauding kangaroos, with only a toy camera, Pryorwoman was still able to get the beer delivered on time, thus heading off a human disaster of incalculable size………..

And she found time to take a cool shot, too……….

  • haha thanks Roy barry…. I had a bunch of cameras with me to be honest and it’s not the ’roos that worried me …. its the goats….. no joke feral goats are a real force to contend with……. and hey if your travelling out this way …. you must take a slab of beer with you just incase….. its just not cricket otherwise…… :)

The low perspective in this one is great. Your description is classic. Love the vivid description of your day in the bush.

  • thanks Pat….. it was a great day out for sure….. some things you do just stick in your mind and this trip was one of them…..:)
